When do you intend to be counted as one?

Senior citizens in the country are not so intimidated by technology as commonly perceived to be. Net-using senior citizens, or Senior Netizens, will cross the 3 million mark in 2007-2008, according to a dipstick survey by the Internet & Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), a trade organisation related to commerce and content through the Internet and mobile media.

The percentage penetration is expected to remain the same or increase marginally from the current 2.7 per cent to 3 per cent, says the survey conducted in collaboration with Crosstab Marketing Services. The top five cities where senior Netizens are active are Delhi, which has 23 per cent of these Netizens, Mumbai (22 per cent), Chennai (12 per cent), Hyderabad (4 per cent) and Bangalore (3 per cent).

Most of the senior Net surfers access the Internet from their homes, followed by usage from offices and cyber cafes. Thirty one per cent actually use their credit cards online, 16 per cent their debit cards and 9 per cent both.
