PAINS AND PLEASURES.

Principal S.S. Prince,

Life Member, Chandigarh Senior Citizens Association

How can death be separated from life?

Both of them are precious treasures,

If death is woe, then life is weal.

True comrades are, pains and pleasures.

Every beauty has its attraction,

Each delight is followed by dejection.

Can we draw a line in water?

Can we separate day from night?

Can we rob a soul from its solace?

Can we snatch a shadow from light?

In human world, the real affection

Is nothing but God's own reflection.

We cannot block the hands of clock,

We cannot catch the falling star,

We cannot arrest the whistling wind,

We cannot check the peace and war,

Mirths and miseries are parts of life,

Joys and sorrows are ever at strife.

The warmth and fire are such,

As the coolness and the ice,

The right and wrong are such,

As virtue and the vice,

Incident and memory are close intimate,

They can't be separated at any rate.

Note: Principal S.S. Prince, 77, an educator, is a prolific writer whose work both in English and Punjabi,
