This is what Mrs. Sukhinder Kalra wrote about her Parents

A Gift from my Mother

I got the most beautiful gift from my Mother which any daughter could dream of i.e. an insight to see something special in everything. Her aesthetic sense, artistic way of doing things, deeper and higher values of life, unending zeal to work, and consideration for others, were the qualities which I adored and was able to imbibe. She always performed her duties smilingly, efficiently and in a practical and economic manner on the one hand and in a most beautiful and aesthetic manner on the other. These qualities of hers became a part of my being and my personality. For me, this has been the most gratifying and satisfying experience.

Mrs. Sukhinder Kalra and her mother, exchange views with Shri Nek Chand,
creator of the famous Rock Garden, Chandigarh in his office.

Whatsoever I have been able to achieve till today is just because Mama was at my back. My attitude towards things and working ability were a gift from her. Even now, when she is no more, I feel very near to her when I am working on a canvas or on an art object. Many a time I feel that I may be able to live without food for sometime but not without creative work. Mama lives in each work of mine - rather in every stroke of it.

My Poet Papa - S. Balbir Singh Pritam

Papa was a very affectionate and loving person. His love for poetry inspired many others around him. From the childhood I witnessed 'Kavi Goshties' at our place. Participating Poets would recite their poems, compositions, and till late at night this poetic atmosphere used to prevail. Even at an early age, when I was not even in a position to understand the meaning fully, I used to like the atmosphere as such. I used to accompany Papa to 'Kavi Darbars' where something or the other used to touch my soul. Later on, the thoughts came out as a poetic rivulet.

Papa started his career as a lecturer in English at Khalsa College for Women, Lahore; and after Partition, he joined Punjab Vidhan Sabha Secretariat from where he retired in 1971 as Assistant Secretary. Inspired by his works, I plan to get his poems published soon*. In one of his poems he says-

*This wish of hers, unfortunately, could not be fulfilled.
